The Gang That Couldn't Conspire Straight

You wouldn’t think civilization needed defending, really. Language, temples, granaries, laws, public service, the arts, agriculture, transportation, architecture. You know, the basics of humane life.

And yet. This generation is increasingly finding that those things have a dark side. Plus, they are under attack from our own rulers -- not for their dark side, but for their illumination side.

MAGAts hate civilization on principle. Perhaps it is their only principle. Truth, beauty, and goodness don’t seem to be anything they want to fight for.

Wasn’t it a famous German Nazi remark, “Whenever I hear the word ‘culture,’ I reach for my gun?” Yes, why, yes, it was.

The essence of civilization is community, not technology. Patterns of behavior are more important than tools. We have seen the two views clash before, on this very continent, over the same original sin of our founding.

At this very moment in 2025, an empire of hot air is being thrown down by a ghost and some lies. The ghost is the Chump of Mar-a-Lardo’s many-times-self-proclaimed best friend, Jeffrey Epstein. And the lies are, miracle of miracles, the ones Chump told to hide his fervid co-participation in Epstein’s child rapes.

He whom his other cruel and bloody brother, Vlad Putin, calls “Polezny Idiot,” has always lied, ever since his hyper-dysfunctional childhood. It is his way of life.

But Preznut Badblood’s lies have never, ever hurt him before this. Yet this time, all the old, familiar wickedness is being dissipated by some little girls.

It has taken guts to repudiate all the coverups previously barfed all over the airwaves, and instead tell his supporters among the dimerati, “Nope, nothing to see here. Move along now.” And by guts, I mean lipid-encrusted chutzpah.

But this particular field-reversal is not being accepted by many of his formerly-immoveable faithful. It seems there is such a thing as a bridge too far for his supporters, beyond which some of them refuse to go.

We used to think, in the more innocent times of 2016, that proclaiming a penchant for rape in general, and child rape in particular, would be sufficient to turn off the Evangelicals. Nope.

Nor was multiple bankruptcy enough to discourage business supporters. Nor was blatant unconstitutionality a barrier to his receipt of smarmy Congressional and Supreme Court flattery and complicity.

Conspiracists refuse to let go despite their cult leader’s misdirection, pleas and orders. It’s a cowardly old world in Chumpville now.

He’s torn his people’s faith at last. And splits in the GOP are going to continue to unravel from here.

But now we see: if the Disensouled Diaperfiller tells his people that there is no there there in the Epstein child rape scandal – nothing being tied to [nonexistent] Democratic pedophilia – and certainly no GOP [certified, attested, witnessed] pedophilia – oh, no – there was never a Lolita Express – then their faith is shaken and, indeed, overthrown.

Not bad work for the first six months of an administration of quarterwits.
